LASER & LENS VISION CORRECTION SURGERY IN BIRMINGHAM

Why have vision correction?

1. Less hassles: See when you swim, answer those night calls, pack less holiday optical stuff, wear regular sunnies … you know the list is long!

2. It’s safer: Lens & laser eye surgery is less likely to cause an infection & scarring than contact lenses.

2. Save money: Glasses & contact lenses cost you much more than lens & laser eye surgery in the long run.

3. It’s better for our planet: Discarded glasses & contact lenses pollute our oceans & landfill with 100 000 tons of plastic waste from discarded glasses & contact lenses every year.

So call us to protect & correct your vision, &  save money & the planet!

Laser Eye Surgery - Wavefront LASIK & LASEK

You could join the millions of people who are seeing well after laser eye surgery (LASIK, LASEK & PRK). Laser treatment is best if you’re between about 18 & 55 years old. At your consultation your eyes will be analysed with advanced eye scanners. The information is used by advanced, high tech lasers to carry out a personal, customised laser eye surgery treatment of your eyes. All the laser treatments are accurate, wavefront vision correction treatments & take about 10 minutes to fix your vision. And you find out how much you can save on vision corrections costs over your lifetime with laser surgery here.

The thin layer is created on the surface of your eye which is carefully peeled away (2)

The underlying layer is then precisely reshaped in a wavefront optimised profile by the laser (3).

Then the layer is carefully replaced (4). You’ll see the difference immediately & it gets better quickly.

LASEK (or advanced surface treatment) is better for some people’s eyes & for some sports & occupations. No flap is created – the surface layer is removed (1) to allow the surface of the cornea to then be reshaped in a wavefront profile by the laser (2).

Phakic Lens or Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL)

Phakic lens implants are like small contact lenses which are placed in your eyes between your own natural lens & your cornea (front window of your eye). Your own lens is not removed & this treatment is usually best if you’re younger than 50. The results are excellent, especially for people who are very short sighted or scared of laser eye surgery.

Types of phakic lenses include the Visian ICL, Artisan or Artiflex lenses. Mark has been implanting phakic lenses since 1998, & will let you know if you are suitable for this procedure.

Lens Replacement Surgery
(Also known as Lens Exchange & Intraocular Lens )

Having to wear reading glasses can make us feel old. But a carefully selected, new intraocular lens (IOL) can replace your ageing natural lens, turning back the years & restoring your vision. Your old lens is removed & replaced by a high tech, new lens. This treatment is usually best for you if you are older than 50.

A quick refractive lens exchange surgery procedure with the latest intraocular lenses has rejuvenated the sight of thousands of Mark Wevill’s patients lives & they can now drive & read without glasses. The procedure is the same as cataract surgery. Find out more about the cost of lens replacement surgery. We may be able to get rid of your frustrations & your glasses. He’ll recommend the best lens for you personally.

BLENDED VISION / MONOVISION

Presbyopia is having difficulty seeing nearby when you get older & it’s usually corrected with reading glasses, varifocal glasses, or bifocals. Blended vision surgery, also known as monovision, restores both your near & distance vision.

Monovision or blended vision corrects one eye for far distant vision & the other for close-up tasks, such as seeing your phone. So you can see near & far without the constant juggling of glasses or varifocal glasses & can be achieved with contact lenses, LASIK or LASEK laser eye surgery or intraocular lenses.

As your brain adapts to blended vision you forget that your eyes see slightly differently & you forget how frustrating coping with presbyopia was.

Become another one of the millions of people over the age of 45 who are once again seeing far & near without the hassle of constantly switching between glasses. Come & talk to an expert vision correction eye surgeon like Mark Wevill in Birmingham. Let’s see what’s the best way to correct your presbyopia. More about blended vision.

Frequently asked questions

There are no strict age restrictions for laser or lens replacement surgeries, but some surgeries are better at certain ages.

LASIK and other laser surgeries are best performed on people over 18 years old when their vision stabilizes. Lens replacement surgery, also known as refractive lens exchange, is better for people over 50, as presbyopia (age-related near vision deterioration) becomes frustrating.

However, individual eye health, your prescription, and specific vision needs also affect the decision about what the best vision correction solution for you personally. It’s essential to have a thorough consultation with an experienced vision correction eye surgeon to assess your suitability based on your unique circumstances.

Post-operative care and follow-ups are essential after laser or lens vision correction surgery. You’ll need to use prescribed eye drops and avoid activities that could injure your eyes. You should receive detailed instructions about the frequency and types of eyedrops you need and resuming activities after your lens or laser eye surgery. And you should ask your surgeon questions about when you can resume specifically your work, sports, and interests.

Regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon are crucial to monitor healing and address any concerns.
